Last week the Lower School enjoyed a fun time of exploration in our gym, our first Maker Faire. I was joined by Edible Memphis magazine editor, expert weaver, and overall "renaissance woman" Melissa Petersen at our booth entitled "Weaver's Guild." Melissa and her husband, Kjeld, grow plants and berries for their colors, boil them in a pot and then naturally dye the yarn that Melissa uses to weave with.

Mrs. Petersen generously shared her homemade, naturally dyed yarns with us and we made bracelets and bookmarks on small hand looms. |

Learning about waft and warp. |
Mrs. Petersen brought photos with examples of some of the berries and plants used to dye the yarns. We also had some of the beautiful items that she has made on display (scarves and blankets).
