Math Fact Practice

As the wintry weather continues in Memphis, I decided to add some more math fact practice sites to both my blog and my Draggo page (in case you end up at home with nothing to do one day).  I have gotten nice feedback from students and parents about the addition and subtraction websites I posted so I wanted to add some multiplication and division sites as well:)

Penguin Jump - multiplication
Cone Crazy - multiplication
Snowball Fight - multiplication
Alligator Divison (shout-out to Mrs. Allen's class)
Fruit Shoot - division

From my last post:

Math Mania Fun!

What a nice evening we all had playing math games and learning about what goes on during our math lessons at St. Mary's!  I wanted to share with those of you that didn't come by the Think Tank some resources that parents might find helpful.  There are several places you can go to for help if you have questions or are having trouble understanding the way that the information is presented in the Everyday Math program:

University of Chicago information - This site is hosted by the University of Chicago (the developers of the Everyday Mathematics program).  This is a great place to go to watch video tutorials explaining the algorithms of the program and to find information about all of the Everyday Math concepts.  When you click on the grade level links on the left side of the screen you will find specifics about what is being introduced and the family letters.   There are also links to sites with games to build fact fluency (down farther on the left-hand side).  This is a great place site to use at home!

Everyday Math - This is a site that we used last year when we had a subscription to the Everyday Math (EM) online components.  We didn't find the online math activities a necessary part of our program, but it does have a couple of tutorials and explanations of the program that are nice (including a list of books involving math!).

Additional EM resources - This site is another part of the EM suite of products and it contains some links to free games.

You can also click on the Math tab on this blog for additional games and activities!

Educational Games

I was reading through some old workshop materials this weekend and came across a link to a website that I already had listed under my "Math" tab on my blog.  It is called Gamequarium and it has many more components to it than just math including some reading activities.  Here is the link and I am adding it to the "Reading" and "Fun Activities" tabs too! Gamequarium Link  First Grade Friends - note that there are links to sight word lists and phonics games:)

Math Game and Bubble Fun

A fun summertime activity is to play games on the computer and a great website to build math and figural/spatial skills is www.mathisfun.com.  Click on the link below to play games like Connect Four and complete Jigsaw and logic puzzles.  You can also click on the headings to learn about different math concepts.

I have also included some amazing websites (see below) with activities involving BUBBLES which always make me think of summertime and playing in the yard.  I would love to hear how your experiments go when we return to school in August!

Math Fun, etc...

Parents you will find several tabs at the top of my blog with resources for both you and your girls.  Under the "Math" tab is a website Math Playground (www.mathplayground.com) that has several fun games in it that build math and logical thinking skills.  These games are: Penguin Jump (multiplication), Jet Ski Addition, Dolphin Dash (money), Logic building - Snail Bob, Cat Around The World, and Snoring Wild West.  I will soon be adding an "apps" tab with games that you can use to build skills during the upcoming summer months.

Also, here are a couple of fun websites that use secret codes and ciphers:

CIA codes

Math Night fun:)

Our third and fourth grade students and their parents gathered in their classrooms last Thursday for a night of problem-solving fun!  The girls amazed their parents with their critical and creative thinking skills as they demonstrated and played some of the games purchased with auction money dedicated to our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiative.
